After waiting for Mr. Luke Waterfield to reply on my email. I send him another email in case he had not received anything from me or forgotten about me. To prevent the loss of contact with him I continued to email him. As I did, the reply was from Luke's colleague, who asked him to contact me about arranging a time for my interview with Sadiq because Luke is was on leave until the New Year.
Mr. David Parry, asked me to call him to find a slot for my interview with Sadiq. I called him on Friday 16th Dec on 020 7219 5820.
When I called him, we arranged a convenient appointment on Friday 13th of January at 2.30 p.m. at Mr. Khan's constituency office.
This is the evidence for sending Luke another message (See below).

Good morning Maryam,
I am Luke Waterfield’s colleague, and he has asked me to contact you about arranging a time for you to interview Sadiq (Luke is now on leave until the New Year).
If it’s okay, I think a quick phone call between us might be the easiest way to find a slot for your to interview Sadiq. Would you mind calling me on either 020 8682 2897 (if you call today, Thursday 15th Dec) or 020 7219 5820 (if you call on Friday 16th Dec).
Many thanks,
David

Hi Maryam,
Thanks for this.
I’m afraid we’re not going to be able to fit this in in time to meet the 16th deadline.
We can however give you a date after Christmas. Please forward this email to your teacher if necessary, as Sadiq is happy to do this.
We’d be able to do this in the House of Commons or Sadiq’s constituency office.
Kind regards,
Luke Waterfield

Hi Luke,
The questions that I will ask Mr. Khan are:
1) What do you think about the new government proposals to put certificates on sexually explicit music videos on YouTube?
2) Do you think this classification will be effective? Why?
3) Do you think that these videos have a negative influence on young people? Why?
4) Do you think the government is actually infringing individuals’ personal rights? Why?
5) What do you think is the best way to educate young people about the sexually explicit images they see in the media from the music videos?
Thank you so much for your assistance.

P.S. could you also let me know where I can interview Mr. Khan please?

Hi Luke,
For start, thank you very much for your reply on my email for Mr. Khan.
Just to inform you, I go to Chestnut Grove Sixth Form, doing my A2 Media Production in year 13.
For my A2 Media Production, I am commissioned to produce a documentary for 5 minutes.
Most importantly, my documentary is about government censorships on sexually explicit music videos, particularly music videos published on websites such as YouTube.
The reason why I choose Mr. Khan, to participate in my documentary is because his opinion is highly valuable for my teenage target audience and the interview with Mr. Khan would give me the opportunity to obtain a higher grade for my A2 Media Production course.
The latest date that my documentary will need to be completed is on the 16th of December 2011. But, I am permitted to hand it in later if Mr. Sadiq Khan’s schedule is completely booked.
Could you let me know as soon as possible when he can be interviewed and where it is possible to interview Mr. Khan please?
I would preferably want to interview Mr. Khan in an office.
Many thanks,
Maryam Latifi

Unit 5: Production Log
On 08/11/11, I send my interviewee a notice on Facebook about whether she would like to take part in my documentary and she agreed to do so.
On 9/11/11 I went to the Tooting Hub with my twin sibling to guide her with her interview with Simon Payne who is a Connexions PA and I had to interview my interviewee as well but unfortunately as I went there she wasn't availability there so I had to leave her a note for my interviewee, Keera, so she could arrange a convenient appointment with me.
On 16/11/11, I went to the Tooting Hub at 11.30 p.m. and arrived there at 12.00 p.m. to meet my interviewee, known as Keera on time. Unfortunately, my interviewee forgot about our meeting and I left her a note stating my contact details so that she can arrange a new appointment with me.
At 3.00 p.m. I went back to the Tooting Hub and there I saw her and we arranged a new appointment with her on Monday 21/11/11 at 11.00 a.m. I got her contact details too.
The video footage will be an introduction to the documentary (who she is, what she does, does her image affects her in any ways, what music does she produce, how does she produce it, does she has a music studio with producers etc. What record label would you like to get signed to? Do you think my documentary is interesting and appealing to you? Do you think that it is right or wrong for the government to censor sexually explicit music videos? Do you think that you have to confirm to that as well? What makes you be who you are?
On this day I will be then making another interview where I will interview her properly about my documentary.

Below is the reply that I have received after sending an email to Mr. Khan, which I obtained from his website.
''Thank you for your email.
Each day I receive hundreds of emails, letters and telephone calls. I also meet local residents at my advice surgeries and on the doorstep. I like to respond to all issues raised as fully as I can, as swiftly as I can. I hope to respond to your email shortly.
Please note that emails are treated in the same manner and with the same level of importance as other communications, i.e. post, telephone and fax.
Parliamentary protocol dictates that a Member of Parliament can only deal with issues on behalf of their own constituents. Please ensure that you have included in your email your name, a full postal address, a contact telephone number and any relevant reference numbers. If this was not included in your email, please re-send your full email with your postal address and full name.
I may need to make enquiries on your behalf, including checks with statutory bodies to help you in your case. Please state if you do not authorise me to do so.
With best wishes,

Dear Mr. Khan,
I am a student from Chestnut Grove Sixth form in Balham. For my A2 Media Production course, I am asked to produce a documentary about whether it is right or wrong for the Government to censor sexually explicit music videos? My request is whether you would be able to answer a few questions in an interview with me for this documentary? An interview with you, would give me an opportunity to obtain a higher grade for my A2 Media Production course. I hope to hear from you as soon as possible in order for us to arrange a convenient appointment. Thank you very much. Yours sincerely, Maryam Latifi | |

Unit 5: Production Paperwork - Evaluating Vox Pops and practicing interviews/filming

I am going to evaluate this video by talking about how good is the:
- Framing
- Lighting
- Sound
- Cross Cutting
- An appropriate shot type
- Mise en scene
VOX POPS
- Framing
In the Vox Pops that we have done as a group has got too much framing. Meaning, the framing is wrong because it should have been closer, shorter and the presenter shouldn’t have been included in the frame as it is a Vox Pops. The interviewee is only supposed to be seen, talking towards the interviewer not straight in to the camera.
To improve this we could have used our hands as a tool to help us frame the picture of the Vox Pop properly.
- Lighting
The lighting is very good because as the Vox Pops takes place on an external set, the natural lighting brightens the conversation between the two actors or interviewer and interviewee. The illumination is not too dark or too bright. It’s perfect.
- Sound
There is good sound available for the Vox Pops as when the interviewer and interviewee speak their voices can clearly be heard and well understood. To add, there is also no background noise available from any other objects surrounding the Vox Pops which is very well done. It requires no correction for the sound as everything for this part is fine.
- Cross Cutting
The cross cutting is not used at all as, mistakenly, the interviewer is present with the interviewee in one shot which mean no cross cutting has been forgotten. This is not good at all. But, for improvement I have to consider the cross cutting in all my videos during an interview.
- An appropriate shot type
The Vox Pops that we have produced has got a good shot type as everything that requires being within the frame is present. Likewise, for the interview a mid shot is used which is the right one for a Vox Pops.
- Mise en scene
I believe that our mise en scene is good because there is nothing that is distracting the viewers from looking into the main image. Meaning, the mise en scence or the set does not contain any clutter, crowded people or cars that may disturb the interview as they pass by.
Interestingly enough, from the mise en scene you can instantly tell that the set is in a collage or school environment where students are on site. The questions asked about the summer 2011 riots and looting to the young person on an academic premise for where young people are mainly available with a young presenter all links to each other.
The composition or arrangement of the interviewer and the interviewee is not very good because the interviewer should actually not be seen on the camera, yet also the interviewee should be looking away from the camera where the presenter is on the right side of the camera or an over the shoulder shot of the presenter.
The props, a microphone and a formal black blazer that I have put on to present myself as a presenter, clearly signifies that this is an interview not a TV show or something else.
The actors which is myself (an interviewer) and the young interviewees are acting very well as they are all talking unscripted when they are answering the question that the interviewer is asking.
Opportunities
The Vox Pops gave us the opportunity to make mistakes but learn from our mistakes aswell. Often, in one video we avoided the things that we have made a mistake previously, but made mistakes of the things we didn’t think about.
But, by evaluating our mistakes we learn better and this give us the opportunity to improve or strengthen our weaknesses.
Secondly, filming the Vox Pops enabled us to test our media technical skills and cognitive skills.
Threats
There weren’t a lot of young interviewees available as it was lesson times because if there was a lot we would have a range of opinions. Yet also, the opinions wouldn’t have been just been from young people but also experts or adult opinions and views.

Unit 5: Production Paperwork- Practice interviews and filming
Test Interviews with Jack, Jose and Maryam and SWOT evaluation
This video is made as a practice to develop our skills in editing/interview and filming techniques/sound.
I am going to evaluate this video by talking about:
- Framing
- Lighting
- Sound
- Cross Cutting
- An appropriate shot type
- Mise en scene
Evaluation
I am going to evaluate this video by talking about:
- Framing
- Lighting
- Sound
- Cross Cutting
- An appropriate shot type
- Mise en scene
Strengths
- The shot type is a mid shot which is appropriate for the interview.
- The lighting is good as we can see the interviewer and interviewee but it would be better if the lighting was brighter.
- The sound is good as there is no one in the room except for the interviewer’s and interviewee’s voices are being heard.
|
Weaknesses
-The interviewer is reading from a script which looks very informal and inappropriate as the interviewer repeatedly has got her head down and there is lack of the use of communication skills. Meaning, there is no proper eye contact to see that they are both talking to each other.
- The mise en scenes appear to be very untidy with too much clutter and unprofessional behind both the interviewer and interviewee.
- The cross cutting isn’t exactly properly done as it suppose to be.
- It would have been good if we had a few close ups of the interviewer and the interviewee talking during the conversation that they had.
- The framing isn’t really good as the shot of the interviewer seems to be in the middle rather than on the left hand side right in front of the interviewee where he is sitting right on the left side to represent the cross cutting.
Also, the framing isn’t straight and on a right angle framed image.
|
Opportunities
The mistakes gave us the opportunity to realize what we have done wrong and how we could have improved.
This gave us the chance to experiment on certain techniques or our technical skills to strengthen it for the real documentary.
Now we know that planning and acknowledgement is the key to a perfect interview or Vox Pops.
Key elements must be thought about before pressing the record button. Perfection is required over time.
|
Threats
The threats were that we couldn’t completely move everything from where we were sitting during the interview for the mise en scence because it was beyond our control.
The lighting as well as we was sitting right above the lighting but due to the day light perhaps we appear less bright.
