Unit 4: Detailed Audience Reseach - Primary Research - My questionnaire Results

The results from my questionnaire are completely the contrast of what I thought or expected teenagers would like to see from my documentary.  It is important to mention, that  when I found out that the results weren’t as I wanted I discovered that I was actually giving the questionnaire to the wrong target audience who  did not really take the answering of my questionnaire serious as they either lost interest of it or they really didn’t care what the questionnaire was for.
Most importantly, the fact that the results were critical and negative, it has lead me to improve myself even more and meet my real specific target audience who are more likely to be interested in the issues covered by my documentary such as those who are sociologists, feminists or media analysts.
Yet also, I discovered that I should mainly asked closed questions as it is quick and staright forwards.
I realized that the group of people I gave my questionnaires to were in a time rush and didn’t have enough time to write detailed answers for my questionnaire.
RESULTS:
The results are based on the majority of the answers provided to me by the group of target audience answering the questions.
Question 1) SEE PITCH POWERPIONT WITH THE GRAPH IN IT.
2)      What styles of factual programming are you most likely to watch?

Serious                                                               Investigative
Light hearted                                                      Optimistic

Critical                                                               Celebratory
Q2)  50% said Investigative and 50% said Celebratory.
3)      Which websites do you visit often to watch TV Channel?

         BBC Three                                                            ITV Iplayer

         BBC IPlayer                                                          YouTube

Or other online websites where you can watch something (please name them).
Q3) The vast majority almost 70% said they watch TV channels on YouTube.
4)      What kind of devices do you own to watch programmes?

         A desktop PC                   Laptop                  netbook

         TV                                    Ipad

Smartphones such as Iphone or Blackberry that has got Internet connection
         Other devices not mentioned above.
Q4)  approximately around 70% said they use laptop as their main device to watch TV programmes including documentaries. 30% said they watch often on BBC IPlayer their TV programmes. This connotes that I will publish my documentary on main websites such as YouTube so it can be watch on laptops and other devices too.
Accessibility to my documentary will be assured for my target audience to watch my documentary without limitations or constraints caused by the software on laptops such as buffering or copy right.
5)      What are your initial thoughts about seeing a documentary that consists of distinct opinions about whether it is right or wrong that the government censors sexy music videos?

Q5) 50% said it’s wrong to censor music videos because everyone has got the right to be an individual.
50% said it is right to censor music videos to protect mainly our younger generation and to prevent younger people to be too sexualised.
6)      Give your opinion on my chosen title for my documentary: Government censorships on sexually explicit music videos?

Q6) From my questionnaire I realized that out of 100%, 80% of the group of individuals who answered my questions said they didn’t like the elaborated title because it was too long which required to be altered into a rather shorter and straightforward title with effective and unforgettable connotations.
7)      Explain what you like to see in a typical documentary?

Q7) The most popular results from the answers of the documentary are that my target audience prefer mainly a documentary to consist of facts, opinions and the truth must be told about the key issues of my documentary. 50% said they wanted factual information, 30% said they want opinions and, finally, 20% said they want a documentary to include of information that is real and the truth.
This result will mean that in my own documentary I will include the key elements that my target audience will look for in a documentary and that it will maintain them interested while watching the documentary.  It will also appeal to them as it will make the documentary focussed and exciting.

8)      Do you prefer the presenter to be visible in a documentary or out of the picture?

        Yes                    No
Q8) For this question, I belief that the majority prefers the narrator or presenter in my documentary to be out of the picture as it is more fascinating to see visual imageries, rather, than constantly someone talking to you. This is even more viable because I can use Voice Over on Mac PCs and do proper editing to use videos, relevant cutaways at the same time and relevant background tracks in my documentary.
9)      Would a documentary about government censorships on sexually explicit music videos be appeal and interesting to you? (Please, state why for your answer)

 Yes                      No
Q9) 60% said yes and 40% responded as No.  This is the exact evidence I will need to show that my target audience are interested in the topic or subject matter of my documentary and that they do really want to see a documentary about the government censoring on sexually explicit music videos. I belief it is a highly crucial issue in our mainstream society.

10)  Does censoring or classification of music videos have any impact on you whatsoever?

               Yes                    No
Q10) The results from Question number 10, indicates that censorships and classification of music videos aren’t as effective or adequate as they should be.  70% out of 100% of target audience said that censorships have no impact on them at all. There are always alternatives pathways chosen by young people such as YouTube or other websites which do publish what young people really want to see.
But, I must say that despite young people deciding that they have got the right to see, hear or say what they want due to Freedom of Speech but they cannot control the Internet. I belief censorship companies need to be more strict and if they ban or censor one music video in a particular website they have to do it in every single website providing the unwanted music videos.

11)  Explain what you think about seeing a documentary that starts with an introduction, followed by, interviews of two experts expressing their opinions, Vox Pops (public opinions) and a conclusion of the overall achievements and key findings?
Q11) By evaluating the results of my questionnaire, I have now discovered that in order for my documentary to be successful I have to meet the needs of my target audience and comply to what they actually want by observing the results of my questionnaires.
The majority said that they would like to see a documentary similar to the one described above. But, before my target audience can judge they must first see my documentary.
